The Thomas Bay Chapter USD 1812 Will Celebrate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 in The Woodlands
“Ring the Bells” will take place on Monday, June 18 at Market Street
With some members dressed in period clothing, the Thomas Bay Chapter National Society United States Daughters (USD) of 1812 will “Ring the Bells for 1812” on Monday, June 18 at exactly 12 noon to help all 50 states of our Nation celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the beginning of the War of 1812.
The community is invited to this free, historical celebration at Central Park at Market Street from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Guests will be given small bells to ring at 12 noon. Free corn dogs and root beer floats will add to the celebration.
Janisue Rigel, Thomas Bay Chapter President-Elect, will be presiding at this historical event celebration. She will be assisted by Lady Dalton, the current President of the Chapter and the Texas Society USD 1812’s 2nd Vice-President. The chapter is proud of its members Janisue, Lady, Davena Rigel-Liepman and Virginia Murray who all serve as various State Chairmen for the organization for the term 2012-2014. Many of the Thomas Bay Chapter members are also members of the National Society Daughters of The American Revolution Margaret Montgomery, Coushatti Trace, and Spring Creek Chapters that are also celebrating this Second War of Independence from England.
The Thomas Bay Chapter is proud of the contributions their ancestors made in this victory.
“200 years ago these brave men of the War of 1812 cemented the strength of the United States and gave us the love of our Country and not just for the states where they resided. This war gave our country National Pride and our National Anthem, thanks to Francis Scott Key who saw our 15 Star Flag at Fort McHenry still flying in 1814 and wrote the now famous words. This has carried over to peace in our country for 200 years and will hopefully continue for another 200 years,” Rigel said. “Two of my ancestors fought in the War of 1812--Jacob Riegel and John Whitmore”
The Texas Society Daughters of the War of 1812 Thomas Bay Chapter is coordinating this event with The Woodlands Township and Market Street – The Woodlands. The Sonic® on Research Forest is sponsoring the event.
This nationwide celebration will be held on June 18 at 12 noon to celebrate the start of the War of 1812, hosted by the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 and the local Chapters of all 50 States.
